Mechanized demolition of 33 buildings and structures at Combined Heat and Power 10 (TETs-10) in Berezniki
The heat & power plant had to be torn down and removed because of the threat of sinkhole collapse: the ground 350 meters away from the plant caved in over an area of 446x339 meters. The absolute water level in the sinkhole was +110.17 meters.
Mechanized demolition of 33 buildings and structures of utility facilities, power engineering equipment, and auxiliary services, i.e., pipelines of various applications (a heat network, a water pipeline, a sewage network, a fuel oil pipeline, and a saline pipe), a utility bridge, and a lightning pole structure 23 meters high). Blasting operations to demolish two smokestacks 100 m and 82 m high.
In-situ reinforced concrete smokestacks with andesite-mortar brick lining. The blasting complied with the required safety measures. The smokestacks collapsed in the designated direction away from the sinkhole location.
Particular attention was paid to soil shifting and stability of the dismantled structures during the dismantling. If any deformations occurred at any stage of the disassembly, the work was paused until the measures were taken to ensure the structures’ stability and work safety.
Material: reinforced concrete, metal structures, in-situ reinforced concrete with andesite mortar brick lining (smokestacks).
